Tank was found in a rural ditch in February, during one of the frigid days of the horrendous 2014 winter, in Ohio. When he was found, he was near death when and a concerned passer-by took him to a local vet. The vet then contacted us, the Humane Society of Morrow County, and asked if we could assist with his care. He was vetted, given some antibiotics and fluids, and scheduled for a neuter procedure.

The passer-by agreed to give him a permanent home after his vetting was done. However, during his recovery they asked that our organization house him until they could prepare for his arrival at their home. She never returned for him and after many attempts to make contact, we realized she was not coming back for him.

Tank, who emaciated and so very skinny upon arrival, was then placed into foster care and spent the next 9 months in that home without having one person show interest in adopting him for permanent placement. He grew from a scarce 5 pound cat to over fifteen pound cat in that time. It’s amazing what some love and good nutrition can do for any animal!

We were contacted by a family looking at a black kitten that was up for adoption. That kitten was no longer available, but they asked if we had any other cats that no one had shown any interest in. We let her know about Tank, she came and met him, and then decided he was the kitty for them! Tank was placed in his forever home on November 8, and after a much anticipated wait in his foster home, he now has a family of his own!

During the 2014 Blue Buffalo Home 4 the Holidays campaign (Oct. 1, 2014 – Jan. 2, 2015), participating animal organizations are encouraged to enter heartwarming adoption success stories. Submissions can be made weekly by email or tagging stories with #BBH4TH, and at the end of each week Helen Woodward Animal Center will select a winning story to be featured on this very blog! After the campaign ends on Jan. 2, 2015, the weekly winning stories will be compiled into a pool and voted on by partnered organizations, animal welfare fans and the public. The story with the most votes will win a $1,000 donation for their animal organization and will be announced on Helen Woodward Animal Center’s blog in February, 2015. For more rules and guidelines, please click here.
