In early August, 2014, Helen Sanders CatPAWS received an urgent call concerning a mother cat who had been collected as a stray, then promptly given birth to four healthy kittens.  Sadly, the family was to be euthanized for space and CatPAWS was asked to take them, which we happily did.

Duke the Kitten Rescue Story- Daria Adoption

The first kitten was adopted to a wonderful family with another kitty and a dog.  Then one week later, a three-generation family of ladies adopted two sisters: Daria and Delilah. That left the only boy of the litter, Duke, alone in our adoption center.  Even as we were packing the girls up to go home with their family, we all noticed how forlorn little Duke looked in his cage, his chin resting on his paws watching his sisters get ready to go home.  He was especially bonded to Delilah, high-energy and rambunctious like him, with whom he would wrestle and play.

Duke the Kitten Rescue Story- Duke Adoption

Duke adopted into his new family – with his siblings!

The family of grandmom, mom and little girls were happy with their two new kittens but they couldn’t stop thinking of Duke and how he looked as his sisters left.  They came back to the adoption center over the next several days to visit Duke and see if he had been adopted yet. Finally we got an email that they wanted him, too!  When they came to get Duke, he was bouncing off the walls of his cage, so excited, like he somehow knew he would be joining his beloved sisters and going home at last.

Although Duke, Delilah and Daria’s mother still awaits her forever home in our adoption center, we were happy and grateful to be part of saving these precious lives!

During the 2014 Blue Buffalo Home 4 the Holidays campaign (Oct. 1, 2014 – Jan. 2, 2015), participating animal organizations are encouraged to enter heartwarming adoption success stories. Submissions can be made weekly by email or tagging stories with #BBH4TH, and at the end of each week Helen Woodward Animal Center will select a winning story to be featured on this very blog! After the campaign ends on Jan. 2, 2015, the weekly winning stories will be compiled into a pool and voted on by partnered organizations, animal welfare fans and the public. The story with the most votes will win a $1,000 donation for their animal organization and will be announced on Helen Woodward Animal Center’s blog in February, 2015. For more rules and guidelines, please click here.
