Little Wyatt Saved from Death’s Grasp
By Helen Sanders Cat Protection and Welfare Society Inc. (CatPAWS), located in Seal Beach, California
A crowd had gathered outside a restaurant near the beach, looking down at something in the grass. Curious, a couple cat rescue volunteers who managed a nearby feral cat colony wandered over to see what was going on. In the wet grass lay a motionless kitten, eyes crusted shut, apparently dead.
They knelt in the grass, cradling his limp, emaciated body when suddenly he lifted his head and emitted a loud cry. Surprised, they wrapped him in towels, dried and warmed him, administered subcutaneous fluids and bottle fed him.
Not optimistic, they continued to feed him around the clock for days, weighing him a couple times a day. Slowly, he began to put on weight and gain strength. One day he started to play and for the first time they became cautiously optimistic that little Wyatt, as they had named the frail kitten, was going to live, against all odds.
He did live, and grew into a playful, precocious boy. Wyatt, abandoned and near death, found his forever home through the CatPAWS rescue.
Every week during the 2012 Iams Home 4 the Holidays campaign (Oct. 1, 2012 – Jan. 2, 2013), participating animal organizations are encouraged to enter heartwarming adoption success stories. Submissions can be made weekly by snail mail, fax or email, and at the end of each week Helen Woodward Animal Center and Iams will select a winning story to be featured on this very blog! After the campaign ends on Jan. 2, 2013, the weekly winning stories will be compiled into a pool and voted on by partnered organizations, your fans and the public. The story with the most votes will win a $500 donation for their animal organization and will be announced on Helen Woodward Animal Center’s blog in February 2013.
