A Heartwarming “Ghost” Story
By Blount County Humane Society, located in Maryville, Tennesee
Ghost wandered out of the woods and into our hearts at the end of the summer. Luckily for him, he showed up as a stray at the home of one of our volunteers. We estimate his age at just over 1-year-old, and that he is a Great Pyrenees. Ghost only weighed about 50 pounds and was in very poor condition when we first met him. His coat was gray and dirty, very matted, and you could feel every bone in his body. He was scarily underweight for such a large dog.
We also discovered that Ghost is deaf.
We quickly got Ghost into a wonderful foster home who had experience with deaf dogs. We shaved his coat down considerably and cleaned him. We fed him several meals a day to help him build his strength back up and put some weight back on. When he began recovering, he also received his neuter surgery, vaccinations, etc, at our vet and was cleared for adoption.
He is now gorgeous again, just over 70 pounds and counting, and has been adopted into a loving family that is very dedicated to making sure the rest of Ghost’s life is comfortable and safe. He sleeps in the bed every night, goes for walks every day and loves his new life! Ghost is very grateful, and so are we!
Every week during the 2012 Iams Home 4 the Holidays campaign (Oct. 1, 2012 – Jan. 2, 2013), participating animal organizations are encouraged to enter heartwarming adoption success stories. Submissions can be made weekly by snail mail, fax or email, and at the end of each week Helen Woodward Animal Center and Iams will select a winning story to be featured on this very blog! After the campaign ends on Jan. 2, 2013, the weekly winning stories will be compiled into a pool and voted on by partnered organizations, your fans and the public. The story with the most votes will win a $500 donation for their animal organization and will be announced on Helen Woodward Animal Center’s blog in February 2013.
