Adoptable Chihuahua Stars as Bruiser in Legally Blonde
Helen Woodward Animal Center Star Already Seeking Next Gig… A Forever Loving Home!
We at Helen Woodward Animal Center are just pink with pride over the starring cast of the upcoming Southern California Regional Theatre premiere of LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL. The show, set to run June 27 – July 14 at the Moonlight Amphitheatre, not only features a talented cast of singing and dancing humans but also one key canine role which will be played by none other than Helen Woodward Animal Center rescue, Ness.
Ness was selected by Rob Kuty (of San Diego Pet Training) out of the available adoptables at Helen Woodward Animal Center, where Kuty serves as official pet trainer. Kuty, who has coached animals for over 13 years, is an expert on the various traits necessary in a “theatre dog.”
“The first step is seeking a dog with the requested ‘look,’” stated Kuty. “After that, it’s all about finding a dog who has confidence, a great demeanor, an obvious eagerness and willingness to learn new things and one who seems to thrive as a part of a team.” Kuty insists that these characteristics are not hard to find amongst orphaned pets.
Ness arrived at Helen Woodward Animal Center, following a stay at another rescue, before securing his path to stardom. Kuty, who is fostering the dog during its training, and will continue to foster him throughout the duration of the show and after the close of the show on his quest to find a forever family, has nothing but praise for the young actor. “He doesn’t seem to realize he’s a big star. He’s just happy to spend time with us and learn new things.”
Ness is learning how to speak on command, jump into a purse, and how to stay relaxed even when on stage with lots of people and with a live orchestra. There was, however, one thing Kuty DID NOT need to train him. “Ness was a total sweetheart right from the start. He will melt your heart. Great, great, great, great dog!”
“I love working with Moonlight Theatre,” stated Kuty. “It’s such an incredible opportunity to provide a rescue dog a second chance. Not only does Ness get to show off his incredible abilities, but he becomes a spokesdog for all the amazing orphaned animals in shelters everywhere. Thousands of people see how truly trainable, well-mannered and loving rescue animals can be.”
Ness will take to the stage as “Bruiser” in Moonlight Theatre’s LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL beginning Wednesday, June 27th and Kuty feels he is ready to show the world what he’s got. Before and during the show Moonlight Theatre will highlight Ness’ search for a forever home and spotlight the importance of supporting rescue animal centers. At the end of the day, THAT may be the most important role Ness will ever play.
