Surfing dogs ready to take the plunge to “surfur” stardom this Sunday!
We’re packing the gear, rounding up our awesome Helen Woodward Animal Center volunteers and preparing for this Sunday for the Sixth Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon. The Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon features more than 80 dogs, including internet sensations Surf Dog Ricochet, Nani, Dozer, and Buddy hitting the waves in four separate weight classes to raise awareness of and money for orphaned pets while promoting responsible pet ownership. The event also includes the Beach Bum Bikini Babe Canine Costume Contest; Doo the Dah, where people and pets in costume surf together to raise funds for Helen Woodward Animal Center.
During the awards ceremony honoring the top dogs of the day, Buddy, a 13-year-old Jack Russell Terrier from Ventura, will become the first inductee into the Surf Dog Hall of Fame. Check out his awesome article at Huffington Post.
Fundraising update! As of 9/23/2011, we have raised $95,670 for orphaned animals! This will help benefit the thousands of orphaned pets that come into our facility, plus our great programs like AniMeals, which helps feed the beloved pets of home bound seniors, and Therapeutic Riding, which serves special needs adults and children in the San Diego community. Plus our many other programs! We thank everyone for their support and look forward to seeing you this Sunday!
